Valmalenco

When it’s too hot to climb on the rock formations that decorate Val di Mello, a good easy-going alternative is to drive to Valmalenco. Here, at the altitude of 2.000 m the air is fresh, the approach is minimal and the view over the Fellaria glacier is amazing.

The rock isn’t granite anymore, but serpentine, a metamorphic rock. For a while you can forget the infamous Mello’s feet smears and enjoy a slightly less technical type of climbing.

Several low/middle grade multipitch routes offer pleasurable climbs, just above the dam of Alpe Gera.

Aside from multipitches, in this area there are several nice sport climbing crags.

If you’re too tired for climbing but wish to live an adventure, GolaUP is the answer. In a couple of hours we’ll enjoy a bit of hiking, followed by one aerial 50 meter-long rappel, a short via ferrata and several zip lines above waterfalls.
